RACHEL HENDRY

(BSc in Psychology, Mental Health Youth Worker, Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Children and Young People)

Rachel Hendry

- Counsellor -

The pressures and challenges that young people face can be overwhelming, and having someone to talk to who can provide emotional support and practical coping strategies can make a significant difference.

Rachel graduated from the University of Greenwich with a BSc in Psychology in 2018 and has worked directly with children and young people ever since. After gaining experience as a Mental Health Youth Worker, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Children and Young People at King's College London in 2022.

Since qualifying, Rachel has worked as a CBT Therapist within busy NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), where she continues to support children, young people, and their families. She is currently working towards accreditation with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a collaborative, goal-oriented talking therapy that helps individuals understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. CBT is typically delivered as a structured, short-term intervention; however, treatment can be adapted and extended to meet longer-term needs and personal goals where appropriate.

Rachel works with adolescents and teenagers, supporting a range of emotional and mental health difficulties, including stress, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). She has extensive experience working with neurodivergent young people and is committed to providing neuroaffirming, individualised support tailored to each person's strengths and needs.

In addition to CBT, Rachel has received training in several third-wave cognitive behavioural approaches, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is passionate about continuing to develop her skills and draw upon evidence-based approaches to provide the best possible support for young people.

Rachel aims to create a warm, safe, and collaborative space where young people feel heard, understood, and supported. By working together, she helps young people develop a greater understanding of themselves, build confidence in managing challenges, and make meaningful changes that support their wellbeing and personal growth.

Rachel offers a free 15-minute discovery call for parents, carers, or young people to discuss their needs, ask any questions, and explore whether therapy with Rachel feels like the right fit. This is an opportunity to learn more about the therapeutic approach and ensure that support is tailored to the individual's goals and circumstances before beginning therapy.
