STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION

What is structural integration?

Structural Integration focuses on this fibrous network called fascia, using techniques that connect into it and help stretch and release it.

It is the fascia which holds us in the postural patterns to which we become accustomed. Through the correct manipulation of this tissue, the treatment can help to restore natural posture and release restrictions of body-use and performance.

An excellent accompaniment.

Structural Integration is an excellent complement to many other therapies, especially Chiropractic, Osteopathy and Physiotherapy.

WHY DO PEOPLE CHOOSE TO HAVE IT?

  • Making the body more aligned
  • Allowing the body to move with ease
  • Bringing balance to the body
  • Easier breathing
  • Improved posture

Structural Integration works on 'lines' of tissue

Injury, chronic tension or imbalance in the body, can have many causes. This strain can spread to other parts of the body; the body then learns to compensate for it.

Many of the “niggles” and restrictions we feel in the body do not come from the muscle itself but rather from the connective tissue which surrounds and supports it. Because it is not supplied with nerves and blood in the same way as the muscle tissue, connective tissue does not respond to normal massage techniques as effectively.

Based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ida Rolf, with significant developments from Tom Myers about soft tissue patterns, Structural Integration treatment works on ‘lines’ of tissue in the body, along which strain and compensation can be followed – and released.
In a series of either 4 or 12 focused sessions, it is possible to release deep-set restrictions throughout the body.
